Damien Binder
Music Type: Acoustic Pop
Home Town: Sydney
Members: Damien Binder
Bio: Now based in Sydney after relocating from Auckland, Damien is looking forward to spreading wings in Australia after success in establishing himself in New Zealand. His NZ profile came about after the release of two critically-acclaimed albums, national and international showcases & supports, and generally wowing everyone who hears his tunes. Retail also got behind the new album, with demand causing the first two print runs to sell out out in the first week of release! The album began in late 2002 with Bob Shepheard& Steve Garden handling production & engineering duties as well as playing bass, electric guitars and drums on the album. Then the live performances beckoned - the World Series showcase in Auckland (playing in front of hordes of A&R, talent scouts and booking agents), supporting Marianne Faithfull, a trip to America in March 2003 to play the reknowned SXSWfestival, then back to New Zealand for a national tour with David Gray. Meantime, Damien’s one-time band mate from the mid-90’s alt-grunge stars Second Child (and quite possibly the best pop producer in NZ), Chris Van de Geer, was drafted in to mix a radio edit of the album’s title track and lead single. The result was so good Chris was given the task of mixing the entire album, as well as adding his own brilliant lead guitar flourishes. The final touch was added at Sydney’s 301 Studio by the vastly experienced Don Bartley. The result is a masterclass in tunesmithery, borne out by Damien being named as one of the five APRA Silver Scroll finalists- the most prestigous songwriting award in New Zealand, and the most coveted by musicians. “Til Now”is ten tracks of sublime songwriting, which takes the blueprint of his debut album (released in 2000), and adds a widescreen production mixed with the amazing musical talents of Damien, Steve, Bob, & Chris.

REVIEW QUOTES
"A rich weave of acoustic and electric guitars behind a voice that sounds vulnerable, yet has a strong confident core... carried along on strong tunes and blazing chord progressions. Singer songwriter albums of the standard of Damien Binder's "Til Now" are few and far between." Nick Bollinger - The Sampler
"I wouldn't be surprised if this album could be in every second home in New Zealand. It's a very easy listening, accessible album. I like it and I know that my mum would like it - you know what I mean? It crosses generations." Francesca Rudkin - TV One Breakfast
"An album as convincing as its predecessor in it’s honest emotions and intelligent songcraft." Russell Baillie, NZ Herald
“Binder writes personal, introspective songs on love, life and longing. His expressive voice is complimented by a low-profile production [and he] lets his exquisite songs take centre stage.” Marty Duda, City Mix
“He has a wonderful, smooth voice that serves his lyrcs and melodies well. The song that stands above others is ‘A Day’s Grace’ wherein Binder hits a jaunty, slighly more upbeat stride, there’s a delighfully dizzy guitar solo with liberal use of the wah-wah pedal and a melody that won’t let go.” Real Groove magazine
